چکیده

This paper provides a simplified tool for preliminary seismic assessment of the out-of-plane behavior non-structural walls, such as unreinforced masonry partition based on non-linear time-history analyses. The studies are performed using equivalent single-degree-of-freedom systems and trilinear hysteretic models. stability is investigated through statistical computed displacement demand related to spectrum-compatible ground motions. model developed by Doherty Griffith used in investigations. rigid body assumption its accuracy was extensively validated experimental results. Four sets 12 recorded earthquakes, slightly modified match design response spectra different soil conditions, were motions Non-structural walls located at level well upper floors also examined. obtained results show that static criterion an accurate estimate resistance rocking (i.e., vertical cantilevers with behavior). According acceleration threshold corresponds product wall aspect ratio gravity (g). Compared results, corresponding calculated limit safe side. Moreover, considering floor spectra, this approach may be easily extended situated storeys.

Modeling of Dynamic Behavior and Estimation of Damage Incurred by Self-Centering Rocking Walls

Self-centering rocking walls are known as viable alternatives to typical shear walls, as they provide a number of solutions for eliminating seismic flaws of conventional designs. These rocking walls have a generally positive impact on the seismic behavior of structural systems, but their design makes them susceptible to concrete crushing around their base, which can lead to significantly advers...

non-linear study of various slit shear walls in steel structures

seismic retrofit strategies have been developed in the past few decades following the introduction of new seismic provisions and the availability of advanced materials and methods. it can be observed that new approaches to deal with more lateral forces are more innovative and more energy absorbent. in line with this, there is a growing trend toward the use of steel shear walls as a system with ...

assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...

Out-of-plane Behavior of Urm Walls Strengthened with Nsm Gfrp Bars

Unreinforced masonry (URM) walls are prone to failure when subjected to out-of-plane loads caused by earthquakes or high wind pressures. In this context, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) materials may be a solution to solve or lessen the effects of this overloading. This paper describes an experimental program dealing with the flexural behavior of nine concrete URM walls strengthened with glass F...

Seismic Response of Building Structures with Sliding Non-structural Elements

Interaction between a structure under base excitation and heavy non-structural elements that it supports is significant in the seismic analysis and design of the structure. Heavy non-structural elements may slide/rock under base excitation, and this dynamic action affects the seismic behavior of the supporting structure. Hence, in this study, a numerical model was presented to describe the seis...
